Getting so close! I just thought I would throw a quick note up here about the time differences.

In Ghana, I will be 5 hours ahead of CST.

In Ireland, I will be 6 hours ahead of CST.

Keep up the prayers!

Stuffed Animals for Easter

Hello! I am getting really excited as my departure date gets closer. It's hard to believe that it's just over 1 week away.

I have a request if anyone can help out with this: There are three full-time missionary doctors in Ghana with their families. There are 6 kids among these families. Zsila and I will be in Ghana over Easter. It was brought to our attention that the kids don't have any stuffed animals and would really like some. So, if you would be able to donate a stuffed animal (fairly small, like the size of Beanie Babies or Webkins) that I could take with me and add to their Easter baskets, please let me know!

Love to all,

Jodi

Preparing for the Journey

Hello, friends and family. I am so excited that you are going to get to share this journey with me. I leave for Ghana on April 1 and arrive April 2. I will be working at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu, Ghana. You can find some more information about the hospital at this website: http://www.bmdf.org/nalerigu-ghana. This hospital has only 3 full time missionary doctors and is heavily dependent on volunteers year-round to meet staffing needs. I am humbled to have the opportunity to help with this. This is the only physician-staffed hospital in an 80-mile radius, so patients come from very long distances to receive much needed medical care. While they are there, they also receive the Gospel message.

I will be traveling with a Pediatric Neurology resident from my school, Zsila Sadighi. She has made this trip before in April 2007. Her blog from that trip is prayforghana.blogspot.com. She has been a huge blessing in my life, and I wouldn't be making this trip without her.

While in Ghana, I will be seeing patients on the hospital floor and in the outpatient clinic. I will be assisting in surgeries and in Ob/Gyn procedures. This learning opportunity right before I start residency will be invaluable.

I know that God is going to do awesome things while I am in Ghana. I am praying that He will change the hearts and lives of the people there. I know He also has a great purpose for me, and I'm anxious to see the way He changes my heart and draws me closer to Him.

If any of you are interested in how you can help me out or contribute to this ministry, there are two ways. First, PRAY!!!!! and pray hard! Second, I'm selling baked goods (cookies, brownies, cupcakes, muffins, etc) and babysitting to earn money. Let me know if you or any friends or family are interested in these things.

I will be updating this blog periodically while in Ghana, and perhaps once more before I leave. I hope that you enjoy reading about the experience there and use this blog as a springboard for prayer for the trip. Right now, please pray for financial provision for the trip, for traveling safety, and for all the final preparations to be made without any difficulty. Thank you all so much!

Blessings,

Jodi
